When Is It Time for a New AC Unit?

Your air conditioning unit is the most important part of your home when the hot weather arrives, and having reliable AC is more important than you might think. However, sometimes you just need to upgrade from your current unit, either because it is broken or because it is outdated.

But how do you decide when it is time to upgrade, and what kind of signs can show that something is wrong with your current AC setup?

Damage

Any obvious signs of damage, like broken components or malfunctioning control panels, can mean that you need to get your AC unit repaired or replaced. Significant damage usually means a full replacement – even if the unit can be repaired, it would cost more and still be less effective than a new model.

It is not hard to find a local company that can help. If you want to replace your old ac unit in your North Richland Hills, TX home, then you can probably find a company that services that area really easily, allowing you to get short-notice replacements done much faster than having to schedule for repairs.

Repairs

If you have been relying on repairs quite regularly, then that can also be a sign that something is wrong. A unit that needs constant repairs is often a unit that has suffered some kind of fault or one that is simply using old parts that wear out faster and are not as reliable.

Repeated repair jobs are going to cost far more than just getting the unit replaced. Sometimes paying one larger price to get a new AC unit is cheaper than paying small repair costs every month.

Utility Bills

Finding that you are paying more for your utility bills can often be a sign that the current AC unit is wearing out. A less efficient unit needs more power to run properly, meaning that you will be paying for more electricity to get the same cooling results that you used to.

It is quite common for even the most high-end AC unit to lose almost half its efficiency after ten years of non-stop operation. This is not always the case, but you should still be ready to replace your air conditioning unit if you notice that you are paying more for less.

Age

An older model is much more likely to develop faults and flaws or just completely break in general. If this happens, it can be extremely difficult to replace some of them since some older AC units will be out of production, and their parts will be in very short supply.

This means that there are often times when it is a good idea to upgrade prematurely. If your AC unit is not properly supported anymore and finding new parts would be hard, then switching to something modern would be much more convenient.

Whatever the reason, having an expert available to replace your AC unit is important. Air conditioning is complex, and it can be very easy to hurt yourself if you try to DIY the system up, so always let the experts handle the dangerous electrical work.
