Why Chickens Are The Most Valuable Animal On The Homestead

Chickens are an important part of the farm. When fully grown, then hens produce plenty of eggs which are then taken care to produce more chickens or even sold for our benefit. Chickens can also be turned into food because their meat is quite delicious. Plus, the meat in its naturally, will have no added hormones, additives, or chemicals that is put in when sold to stores.

There is the meat, the baby chicks, and then, there are the feathers. Farms do pluck the feathers to make a good pillow or comforter for our beds.

With fertilizer, a bunch of chickens will produce a high quality of it and they will digest all the weed seeds. Those nasty weeds won’t be in the garden thanks to chickens disposing them properly by eating them. The best way to handle the weeds and control the fertilizer is to make their coop the center of the field so the chickens can have 360 access to enter and exit.

The run they go through can be controlled so the fertilizer can be evenly spread and those weeds can be plucked out by them. Chickens like to dig in and they will also eat insects that can do damage.

Chickens are quite easy to handle because they are not rough and dangerous like cows and horses and bulls. Even roosters, with their vicious bites, are not so dangerous but you don’t need them to lay a lot of eggs. They can be used primarily as the bully to keep the rest in place and to crow when needed.
