Wooden Office Chair Mat

Do you have a home office that is carpeted or even hardwood floors? If you do are you happy with you office chair mat? I know the wheels sink into the plastic one when placed on carpet and the ones on hardwood floors have a tendency to slide out of position. That is the problem I have, I don’t have carpet so my mat goes walk about often and then I have to struggle with getting it to slide back into its rightful place.

Well, Seamster has a tutorial for making a wooden chair mat that not only keeps the wheels of the chair out of the carpet but it looks absolutely gorgeous. The heaviest plastic mats can be over 100 dollars and then here I am chasing it all over the room. Seamster says this very large mat cost less that 75 dollars to make!  I am so going to nag beg hubs to make me one.

It is made from a box of laminate flooring, the very cheapest box to get as smooth a surface as possible so you can roll with ease. This one is made to serve a long desk with a pc on one side and work area on the other and the mat lets you roll all the way along the edge of the desk.

You could probably adjust the measurements if you need your mat to be smaller or even bigger. I totally love it. You can see the tutorial on Instructables.  If you don’t have a home office due to lack of space you could, Build a DIY office in your garage for under 500 dollars.
