Wool Blanket Or Mss Which Would You Choose

Wool blanket or Mss which would you choose if you were going hunting or camping and it was going to be very cold at night? I would have chosen the wool blanket every time till now. I have heard all my life that a wool blanket is the absolute best thing to have to keep you warm.

Wool Blanket Or Mss Which Would You Choose

The main reason was always that because it would keep you warm even if it was wet. While it will in a way keep you warmer because it won’t freeze as easily wet as other types of blankets will, it also won’t stay dry like I thought. I always assumed that the lanolin from the sheep that would be in the wool would act like a water repellent but it seems that is not true. Or not totally true, while it will repel water for a little while,it will become saturated if exposed to water long enough. In The Video below from  Brave The Wilds we learn how much better the mss, which is the Military Modular Sleep System and can be purchased new on sale or used for a much better price is compared to a wool blanket.

The mss has three different sleeping bags that you can use each alone or all three together. It has 4 components: green mummy style Patrol Bag, black mummy style Intermediate Bag, weather resistant camouflage GorTex Bivy Cover which will keep you warm to -40 and waterproof when the three are used together, It also has a bag to keep everything in when you need to pack up. He gives you all the reasons why the mss is better in the video and I would think that knowing this is what is given to the military to use would tell me that it is probably the best that is available and what I would want if I had to try to stay warm while, hunting, camping or trying to survive.
