Some seek for an herbal version instead of medicines filled with various chemicals that could be counterproductive. These are some herbs in this homemade recipe that are right for our respiratory systems and what are their positive properties. First, there is mullein, a respiratory herb that brings a lot of strength to our lungs with its anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic actions against all respiratory issues. Elecampane helps to settle our irritated throats from pervasive coughing caused from accumulating mucilage and extra oil. Finally, there is licorice ,another antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory herb effective against dry coughs.
First, mix the water and the herbs and dried chamomile flowers in a pan over low heat. Then, raise the heat until the water boils, then lower the temperature for the mix to settle; that should be about 10 minutes. Next, drain the herbs with a coffee filter and have the liquid in a bowl. When the liquid cools, mix in the honey and stir, pour into a glass mason jar, and close it tightly. Put in the fridge, where it can last 3 to 6 months. Use one small teaspoon as needed.
