The Calendula flower is known to have anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. This can be done in two ways. After brewing the tea you can apply it directly to your eye or use it as a cold compress.

This is an old fashioned remedy for eye irritation and should not be used as medical advice. If you suffer from severe pain, have colored discharge, are a diabetic or have other chronic ailments that affect your eye health, always seek help from a medical professional. It is also highly recommended to ask advice from a medical professional prior to using any home remedy if you have diabetes or any other chronic illness.

In regards to pink eye, this remedy will relieve viral conjunctivitis, not the bacterial kind. Symptoms of bacterial pinkeye typically include colored discharge.

To brew your own batch collect dried calendula flowers, either by growing and drying your own, or purchasing them online. Fill a heat proof cup with one to two tablespoons of dried flowers, add boiling water, cover, and let steep for 15 to 20 minutes. Once the tea has cooled, strain the tea through a filter, such as a coffee filter to separate any small particles that can further damage or irritate your eye.

Place the tea in an eye basin or the palm of your cleaned hand and rinse your eye. You can also soak the tea into a sterile cloth and use as a compress several times. Repeat this throughout the day until your eye is relieved. Do not store the batch of tea, instead brew a fresh batch each day of use.
