How Long Does Pest Control Usually Take?

Have you called a pest control company and wondered why they always tell you that it would take at least a few hours to be able to do a treatment?

This is such a common question, second only to how much a treatment would cost. While “a few hours” may seem like an exaggeration, it isn’t. It all boils down to how extensive the labour would be, or what exactly needs to be done.

Pest Control

It is completely understandable that you would want to know the duration of how long a treatment is, since most people lead very busy lives. Knowing this can help you plan your day better; vacate your home if need be; and if the price will be affected by how long the treatment is.

Pest-Ex Pest Control Gold Coast always gives informative answers to questions like these because it is important that homeowners are aware of the different treatments in the market and their corresponding durations.

It Depends on What Type of Pest Control Treatment is Being Done

The time it takes to execute different types of treatments depends on a lot of factors. Here are a few brief explanations of some of the most common jobs of pest control experts:

REGULAR PEST CONTROL TREATMENTS

If the client is a small residential unit and it is located in a complex where there might be dozens of other units, the team of professional pest control experts will remain and do the work for approximately 30 minutes. Mind you, these are straight forward jobs – there aren’t any active pest related issues. Jobs like this normally involve an internal spray only, internal perimeter spray, gelling of the kitchen cupboards and your drawers. Dusting of the roof void and that’s pretty much it.

PEST CONTROL WITH AN ACTIVE INFESTATION

This is a task where the customer wants their place treated for pests and they have an active infestation. This kind of infestation usually takes a bit longer, which is around an hour and a half. The main reason for this is obvious as it typically involves a bit more groundwork —

  • Identifying the issue
  • Consulting with the customer
  • Determining the best course of action
  • Performing the treatment
  • Implementing preventative measures

For example, if the customer has an ant infestation, the professional pest control experts has to do an internal spray, internal gel baiting, crack and crevice dusting, roof void dusting, weep holes on the outside, dusting in the wall cavities, as well a full perimeter spray including the lawn, gardens and yard.

TERMITE BARRIER INSTALLATION

A termite barrier treatment normally takes about sixteen hours of labour for one expert. Normally, most pest control companies divide up the task into two technicians. This has to be done because assigning all the jobs to one person would be an overwhelming experience and that might jeopardize the whole plan. The job usually entails digging, drilling and trenching for two days straight, but with two experts working, the task of installing the termite barrier may be completed for only eight hours.

With a termite barrier, experts trench in the soiled area up against the home. They’ll trench down to the footings and apply 10 litres of Termidor product per metre and then back fill the soil, so there’s a continuous barrier right around the property. Any concrete area involves having to drill a small 10mm hole every 200mm apart which we then inject with the same Termidor product (10 litres per metre) under the concrete against the house.

This ensures a complete and continuous barrier zone around the house.

Takeaways

For most jobs, pest control treatment may be done quite quickly, but for more complex jobs, the task may take up a whole day to complete. For homeowners having some pest control issues in their abode, it is encouraged for the property owner to spend the day with friends or family while pest control experts are handling the situation at hand.
