A vinegar Sage leaf compress for bruises and sprains is a natural remedy poultice to reduce swelling and easing discomfort from sprains.

You can also use hot (not boiled) vinegar and dried sage leaf to create a paste. Allow to sit for 5 minutes. Coat skin with vegetable oil to avoid poultice sticking to skin then apply paste directly to the sprain or bruise then cover with cling wrap. Apply to injured area several times a day. Sage may also be used on wounds to prevent bacterial infection.

Sage is a hardy perennial that grow up to three feet tall. The plant has woody stems, grayish colored leaves, and small purple flowers.
