Grow Your Own Mushrooms

You can learn how to set up your own mushroom bed by following the advice from Milkwood as they show us how to set up the bed and what to expect from our mushroom garden. The garden you will be making will grow King Stropharia mushrooms which are very large and delicious.  The mushroom spawn is grown on wood chips that have been soaked for a week to kill of any other organisms that might compete for nutrients with the mushrooms.

A good time to inoculate the wood chips with the mushroom spawn is a month before the first frost so a lot of folks will have time yet if they would like to see mushrooms come spring. Depending on humidity and how much water the garden gets you could have mushrooms to pick in 30, 60 or even 90 day if you make the garden at a different time of year. Made before frost you should see some in the spring.
