Home Too Warm? Here’s What to Do

No one likes living in a home where the temperature is uncomfortable. For many of you, your home may be much warmer than you would like. This makes it hard to fall asleep, to get a home workout in, or just to relax around the house. Luckily, there are a few simple things you can do that could significantly cool down your home, without spending a fortune. So, if your home is too warm, here are a few things you can try:

Home Too Warm

Perform Air Conditioner Maintenance

One of the first things you should try is performing maintenance on your air conditioning unit. Over time, the inside of your air conditioner can become clogged with dust and other debris. When this happens, it will cause some AC problems. This means you’re not only not getting the cool air you need in your home, but you’re spending more on your energy bill each month. To fix this, you need to clean out the inside of your AC, either by yourself or by hiring a professional AC maintenance team. You should also replace the air filter for your AC unit every few months to ensure optimal efficiency.

Get an Air Conditioner Replacement

If you’ve performed maintenance on your air conditioner, and it still isn’t operating as well as it should, it may be time for a replacement. These systems are designed to last for a long time, but this doesn’t mean they will last forever. If it’s been a while since you’ve gotten this air conditioning unit, now is the time to consider a replacement.

Spend some time browsing through home ac units and see what options are available to you. Find one that is not only capable of cooling down a home of your size but one that does so efficiently. You may find it useful to consult with a home air conditioning repair team, as they can recommend some great models for you.

Check the Thermostat

Sometimes the issue isn’t with your air conditioner at all, but with the thermostat controlling it. If your thermostat becomes damaged or dirty, it could incorrectly report the indoor temperature to your AC. This will cause your AC to run at the wrong times, wasting energy and not cooling down your home enough.

To fix this, start by disconnect the power to your thermostat. Most thermostats are wired directly into the home, so you’ll need to do this at your circuit panel. Once the power is off, open up the thermostat. Clean away any dust that might have built up inside the thermostat, and look for signs of damage or anything that might have come disconnected. Close everything back up when you’re done, turn the power back on, and see if your problem is resolved. If you’re uncomfortable doing all this on your own, most AC repair teams can do it for you.

Block Out the Sun

According to curtains sunshine coast, the sun plays a big role in determining indoor air temperature. If the sun is entering directly into your home, the rays will heat up that room significantly. The solution is to hang up some darker blinds or curtains to block out more of the sun. You should then keep this closed when the sun is shining directly into that window or door. Closing those blinds or curtains for even just a few hours in the middle of the day can significantly drop the temperature for that room.

Add Some Fans

Fans are a simple, but effective, way to cool down a room. A single standing fan or desk fan pointed right at you can make a room feel a lot cooler. If you have space, you can also install a ceiling fan. For those of you who already have a ceiling fan, make sure it’s spinning in the right direction. Many people don’t know this, but you should spin your ceiling fan one way during the Winter and another during the Summer, to either lift heat up or push it back down.

Check for Window and Door Gaps

Finally, you should check to make sure there are no gaps around your windows or doors. If there are, it could let your cool air out and warm outside air in. Simple things like installing a door sweep, adding some caulk around the outside of windows, or making sure your windows are fully closed can go a long way.

Small Changes Make a Big Difference

By using just a few of the tips above, you can likely cool down a room by a few degrees at least. Other than buying a new AC system, these solutions are also relatively cheap. So the next time you feel like you’re sweating just walking around your home, look to see if any of the above solutions can help you out.
