Cayenne pepper is a great way to relieve pain, and the best way to safely transfer its properties to the pain site is through a salve. Cayenne, or hot peppers contains a compound called capsaicin. This can treat pain for an assortment of medical conditions such as shingles, arthritis, backache, muscle pains, and more.
You can buy topical gels and ointments at many drug stores and supermarkets, but they usually charge a premium price for a small jar. It’s better to make your own at home.
You can make your own salve from cayenne peppers that you grow in your yard. The first step involves drying them in a dehydrator, or stringing them and hanging them up to dry. They can also be dried in your oven. Once dried, they can be stored in mason jars. You may even wish to purchase cayenne powder from the store.
In order to extract the beneficial compounds from the peppers you’ll need to make an oil infusion with peppers and sunflower oil, or other types of oil. You can also add herbs to increase the potency of your salve. After this step you’ll place your jar into a pan of hot water, and keep on low for a couple of hours. The next step is straining it. You’ll then mix your infused oil with beeswax and essential oils such as peppermint, to make it smell good.
