Tour of a beautiful garden that has incorporated Wattle garden beds, a circular tree bench, and a woven circular wattle bed that creates support and encourages the plant to grow upwards with support.
By driving stakes into the ground vertically then weaving branches in and out of the vertical stakes – you can create a wattle garden bed.
With the same method, you can make an wattle green branch arbor arch by creating a long narrow panel, standing it up in a rounded vertical U shape and attaching it securely in place with tent stakes until the green branches dried into the shape.
Types of Woods that work well for this project:
Ash – durable, not flexible – good for handles
Aspen – young saplings are best
Birch – young saplings are best
Cedar – best for fence posts
Oak, Dogwood & Sumac – good for intricate bends, very flexible
Willow – best for bentwood, and weaving
Flexible vines for decorative weaving are honeysuckle and grapevine.
