Build A Solar Heated Stock Tank

Build this solar heated stock tank and cut way down on the costs of keeping the water from freezing in your stock tanks. Starting with a galvanized stock tank Gary Reysa and Lori Anderson show us how to build a solar collector and an insulated surround to prevent the water from freezing. No electricity using tank heater needed.

The double glazed south side of the surround is actually a solar collector to help heat the water and prevent heat loss over night. As an added bonus when the weather begins to warm up enough so that the water doesn’t freeze you can remove the collector and use it as a small green house to get started on your gardening. Very nice tutorial for a very useful project. You can see it on Mother Earth News.
