Learn the perfect way to build a Saddle Rack. Anyone can do this as long as you have the right equipment, materials, and plans. When done properly, this project can make an attractive alternative to the metal tube rack distributed by horse tack suppliers or sold at stores.

This design requires one piece of ¾” x 24” x 24” Oak Plywood, satin finish polyurethane poly, wood filler, glue, sandpaper, thirty ¼” plugs, 1½” wood screws, Kreg screws and an over-sized stock of 1 1/8 “ x 12” x 12” pine wood.

You must ensure to determine the desired size of the Saddle Rack before you start cutting the rack pieces. This can be done by measuring the length of the saddle for which the rack is being made. For the rounded top edges, you will need to use a bandsaw to cut them out. Sand the top edges to smooth their surfaces. The most important thing is to pre-drill the wood.

Note that the rack you are making will help your saddle maintain its shape so ensure it fits it well. You might require a broader and taller rack particularly if you have a Western saddle.
