If you love biscuits and gravy you will love these two ways of stuffing your biscuits with the sausage gravy for a hand held take of an old beloved recipe that is one of my absolute favorite weekend breakfasts. Most of the time I just bake the biscuits and we break them open and pour the gravy over them on a plate but if you have a crowd in for holidays or just a large gathering the stuffed biscuits would be perfect for a breakfast or brunch table. Joyously Domestic shares how they make them at home but stuffing the biscuits with the sausage gravy before baking so you end up with a filled biscuit you can pick up and eat. When we go camping I have always taken along the pie iron because you can make so many easy meals with it. We take along flour tortillas and shredded cheese and use the pie iron to make quesadillas, and ham an cheese with bread slices to make grilled ham and cheese sandwiches in it.
You can also make your sausage gravy up at home ahead of the camping trip and bring it sealed in a bowl or bag along with some canned biscuits and make these stuffed biscuits with the pie iron. Just heat the pie iron till its warm, flatten a biscuit to fit the pie iron oil it with your choice of cooking oil on the side that will be on the iron, press the biscuit into the iron, spoon on a couple tablespoons of the gravy and then top with another flattened and oiled biscuit. Seal the edges to avoid all the sausage gravy cooking out and they place close to coals and turn every minute or so until the biscuit is nice and golden brown. So much easier than trying to make biscuits and gravy from scratch while camping.
