Turn rug upside-down (flip) and run a vacuum over it repeatedly (back and forth) and all the dirt falls out of it. Vacuum carefully both sides of your rug, as well as the floor surface underneath it. You really should not vacuum the edges because you can easily fray and damage the fringes and/or tassels of your rug.
