For the more adventurous, people like to go rafting on the lake or river behind their homes or even in park. Many buy a constructed raft for multiple people to float on; others want to be creative with their homemade raft.

Those DIY projects are quite fun but require plenty of sweat and time to spend in constructing it. Here is one interesting project for you to build your own portable raft.

The pontoon raft will be made from pallets and 55 gallon plastic barrel drums. The barrel drums will float and the wood pallets will be the body strong enough for people to sit on top of. Start by taking the boards apart from at least 8 pallets. This will be used as the deck. Take out the old nails and then use new nail to attach the support beams. Cut some notches out of the pallets for the crossbeams to sit in and under the deck. This is where the plastic barrels will sit under.

Get ratchet tie downs to tie the barrels to the pallets and have plenty of it to wrap around tightly. Obviously, you can’t have the barrels and pallets coming loose in the water. You cannot put pallets for the middle portion of the deck, so make up your own deck boards by screwing it down to at least four of the middle sections of the pallets along holding up along the barrels. Test it out to see if it floats and check the weight limit so it can properly hold the people and things you may place on top of it.
