If you like to make your own wines, beers and other alcoholic beverages then you will probably enjoy learning how to make your own rum. This article will walk you through the entire process from the fermentation to the distillation of the rum. While it is not going to be aged in wood barrels, according to the author it tastes pretty good. I suppose if you have a wood barrel or two you could make a lot and age it. In this tutorial you will only be making 2 flasks (500 ml).
The ingredients needed to begin making your rum are as follows.
-
Distilled Water (2 litres-your standard bottled water will do)
-
1 pack plain old bakers yeast
-
1-2 lbs sugar (granulated works best)
-
8 ounces of Molasses
Once you have your fermentation compleated you will move on to the distillation process. For the distillation process you will need the following.
-
10 ft of 1/4 inch copper tubing (Hardware store)
-
A couple copper couplings (Hardware store)
-
1 old pressure cooker (Mothers cupboard)
-
A two gallon bucket
-
Waterproof sealant (preferably silicon)
