How to Weave a Bamboo Privacy Wattle Fence

This step by step tutorial of how to weave a bamboo privacy wattle fence and the video demonstrating the technique brings a creative twist to frugal homestead fencing. Wattle panels are made by weaving thin branches (either whole, or more usually split) or slats between upright stakes.

Good choices of green (newly cut) thin small branches are:

  • Hazel

  • Willow

  • Alder

  • Bamboo

  • Beech

  • Oak

A “wattle fence” is a tightly woven branch fence that is stationary while a “Hurdle fence panel” is a tightly woven branch fence that is a moveable section of fence.

Planted Bamboo tends to spread quickly renewing itself, it can be a building material or a nuisance … I guess it is how you choose to use/not use it.
